Treatment process

Panoramic X-ray and tomography

The tooth's position, root shape and distance to the lower jaw nerve are imaged. 3D tomography is required in risky cases.

Anaesthesia

The area is numbed with local anaesthesia. It can be combined with sedation for anxious patients.

Surgical extraction

The gum is lifted and, if needed, the tooth is sectioned and removed in pieces, minimising bone loss.

Sutures and healing

The site is sutured; stitches are removed after 7 days. Cold application and a soft diet are recommended for the first 48 hours.

No. A wisdom tooth that has erupted correctly, can be cleaned and bites against an opposing tooth is kept. Extraction is needed if there's pain, infection, decay, a cyst, or crowding risk.

Depending on how impacted the tooth was, swelling lasting 2–3 days can occur. Regular cold application in the first 24 hours reduces it significantly.

Most patients return to daily life the next day. Soft tissue heals in 7–10 days; bone healing takes a few months.

This risk is managed by measuring the tooth's distance to the nerve with 3D tomography beforehand. In nerve-adjacent cases, alternatives like coronectomy are preferred.
